Study Island is a web-based program designed as a supplemental educational tool geared specifically to each individual state’s standardized assessments. Study Island was built to meet and reinforce each state’s unique standards. For example, students using Study Island in Texas would have questions geared to prepare them for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). Study Island is designed to help its users prepare for and improve their state testing scores. Study Island is offered in all 50 states as well as Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario in Canada. Over 24,000 schools use Study Island across the country boasting more than 11 million individual users. They have more than 30 content writers who research each state’s standards and create content to meet those standards. The content contained in Study Island is very specific. It provides assessment and skill practice in all major subject areas in both tested and untested grade levels. Key Components Study Island is a completely customizable and user-friendly learning tool. There are many features about Study Island that make it a great supplemental tool to prepare students for their state assessment. Some of those features include: Study Island is supplemental. Study Island is not meant to be used as a primary curriculum. It is only a supplemental tool. However, there are mini lessons for review before or during each individual standard’s specific set of questions. This allows students to have a quick refresher on material that should have been covered in depth during class instructional time.Study Island provides instant feedback. When a student clicks on the correct answer, they get a yellow star. If they click on the incorrect answer, it says that the answer they have chosen is wrong. Students are able to choose again until they get the correct answer (their score only reflects whether they got it correct on the first attempt). If the student does not answer it correct the first time, then an explanation box will pop up giving a detailed explanation of that specific question.Study Island is adaptable. There are many features of Study Island that give options to the teachers and students using the prog ram. Teachers can choose the specific content that they want their students to work on. For example, if a 5th-grade science teacher finishes a unit on the properties of matter, then they may want their students to complete the corresponding unit to properties of matter on Study Island. Teachers may also choose the number of questions they want their students to answer. Study Island also has three modes for which content can be answered including test mode, printable mode, and game mode.Study Island is goal oriented. Students work to achieve each mini-goal within their specific curriculum. A student may be working on a lesson over â€Å"Context Clues.† The teacher can set the benchmark score at 75 percent for mastery. The student then answers the designated number of questions. If the student scores at or above the mastery target score, then they will receive a blue ribbon within that individual standard. Students learn quickly that they want to earn as many blue ribbons as po ssible.Study Island provides remediation. One of the best features of Study Island is that it truly does not leave any student behind. If a 6th-grade student is working on a math lesson over exponents and that student performs unsatisfactorily within that topic, then the student will be cycled down a to a lower level of skill within that specific topic. Students will then work on that lower level as a building block until they can master that skill and eventually move back up to grade level. A student can be cycled down 2-3 skill levels below their grade level until they build enough of that skill to advance back up to their actual grade level gradually. This skill-building component allows students with gaps in certain areas to fill those gaps before moving on to the more advanced material.Study Island is accessible. Study Island can be used anywhere there is a computer or tablet with Internet access. Students can log in at school, at home, and the local library, etc. This feature allows students who want extra practice to have it at their fingertips at any time. In addition, teachers can utilize Study Island to reinforce concepts in a whole group or small group setting with the group sessions feature. This unique feature allows teachers to interact with a group of students working on multiple mobile devices. The teacher can administer specific questions, review lessons or standards, and monitor student progress in real time.Study Island is special needs friendly. There are several tools that teachers can take advantage up to meet the individual needs of special needs students. In the multiple choice format, you can change the number of answer choice from four to three. You can also lower the score it takes for an individual student to earn a blue ribbon. Many students like to go through questions as quickly as possible without really taking their time. Study Island has a feature that does not allow students to do this. If they are getting too many incorrect answers at a rapid pace, a warning box will pop up to that student, and their computer will be â€Å"frozen† for about 10 seconds. This forces the students to slow down and take their time.Study Island provides great reporting and data analysis. The reporting feature is extremely custom izable and user-friendly. Teachers have many reporting options ranging from individual to the whole group to comparison to specific date ranges. If there is a report that you want, it is probably on Study Island’s system. In addition, the Edmentum Sensei Dashboard, provides teachers with tools for comprehensive data analysis, the ability to monitor learning goals and a new refined way to have real meaningful interactions with students on a regular basis.Study Island is admin and teacher friendly. System administrators and teachers can add new students, set up classes, and change settings very quickly and conveniently. Every feature is easy to change typically with the click of a mouse. The entire program is customizable. Teachers can even create their own tests by adding their own questions to the Study Island system. Since Study Island is state specific, there is no standard cost across the board. Research Study Island has been proven through research to be an effective tool for test score improvements. A study was conducted in 2008 that supports the overall effectiveness of Study Island in impacting student achievement in a positive manner. The study showed that over the course of the year, students who used Study Island improved and grew while using program particularly in the area of math. Missions of the Church of the Nazarene Free Essays

Evangelical Protestantism really began with John Wesley, arguably one of the most charismatic, thoughtful and persuasive of the new brand of preacher appearing in America in the 18th century.   The Methodist movement was built around an idea directly opposed to the Calvinist concept of pre-destination.   What Methodism centered on was the idea that anyone could be ‘saved’. John Wesley introduced and championed the idea that it was possible to elevate the human heart and mind, through communion, prayer   and spiritual meditation, to a state of ‘Christian Perfection’.   At the turn of the 20th century, in addition to all of the other fundamental changes in society including the industrial revolution, the rise of American power in the world, and the end of slavery and the pacification of the South, religion and religious belief had again become a central part of American life. Into this flux, and in an effort to resolve the growing crisis of conflicting faiths and an increasing splintering of Methodism, a unifying theology appeared.   Combining all of the Methodist Pentecostal denominations and the Holiness Church of Christ and five other denominations, the Church of the Nazarene emerged under the combined umbrella of Harding and the Holiness Movement – neither of which had been combined previously on such large scale.  Ã‚   The new Church of the Nazarene, which combined churches in Europe, North and South America began expanding while simultaneously absorbing other holiness churches and upon very active missionary that continues today.   It is the purpose of this paper to present the state of the Church of the Nazarene and how its missionary history helped it to continue to grow and expand into the twenty-first century. The Nazarene Church missions have, historically, placed themselves directly in the center of crises.   It is no coincidence that all of the denominations that came together to form the Church of the Nazarene were missionary churches.   At the beginning, â€Å"the Nazarenes had 52 churches with 3,827 members, while the Pentecostals numbered 47  churches with 2,371 members. The union made a combined list of 99 churches and 6,198 members,†[1].Harding’s message was that while God had chosen to give every human being a certain quality of pure grace that could not be removed or augmented by human action, it was within our grasp to become closer to God through the rituals of faith. The Church of the Nazarene took up the Great Commission, that â€Å"all peoples on earth will be blessed through you† (Genesis 12:3) and, in the final chapter of Matthew, â€Å"Go and make disciples of all the nations of the world, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded to you,† (Matthew 28:18-20).   It then began to spread itself vigorously to every corner of the world seeking to fulfill that very mission[2].   Indeed, it would later become the requirement that all senior members of the church and, in particular, all ministers, complete missionary work. Nazarene Church missions have taken several different forms over the course of the past century.  Ã‚   The first, clearly, was the outreach missionary work that followed the traditional lines of church work.   The second, was the establishment of Nazarene Church colleges throughout the world.   The third, was the combined efforts of all Nazarene churches and associations throughout the world under one charter and mission, to keep the Great Commission. The first Nazarene Church missions began taking place shortly after the creation of the institution. As the main centers of the church, at the time of inception, were on the East and West coasts of the United States.   From the Eastern churches emerged Susan Fitkin and her partner Harrison F. Reynolds.   Fitkin and Reynolds based their missions upon a divine revelation of Fitkin’s – that she had been selected by God to spread His word throughout the world and that missionary work was the most powerful and significant of the works that any human could perform for God. Fitkin then stirred up the passions of the church for missions and, in particular, missions to traditionally non-Christian nations.   Fitkin’s work directly influenced the direction of Nazarene missions then and today.   It was because of Fitkin that the Nazarene Church made missionary work the centerpiece of the expression of their faith. Following upon Fitkin’s example, Dorothy Fay Davis took up the leadership reins at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital and Nazarene Nursing School in Bremersdorp, Swaziland in the 1950’s[3].   Her missionary work, like Fitkins, began with a â€Å"calling† from God.   Davis built churches, preached her sermon, and brought the Nazarene form of faith to Swaziland and to the whole of South Africa and, following also in the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, she began a movement of teaching Swazi women how to be Christian nurses[4]. Davis lived and worked in Swaziland as a spiritual leader, the college headmaster, and as a minister in her many churches until the mid 1980’s- a career that spanned four decades and her works continue to be influential in terms of the Nazarene missions. Missionaries were not the only Nazarene members making missions. One of the most influential Nazarene members was C. Warren Jones.   Jones had become one of the executives managing foreign missions in the mid 1940’s.   Under his leadership, the Nazarene Church raised more than one-million dollars to support their missions.   His influence was felt throughout the world as the money raised became the foundation of countless churches, the travel and living expenses of missionaries, and the foundation of the Nazarene schools and colleges[5]. These people, and countless others, worked together over the past one-hundred years of the Nazarene church have built a legacy of missionary work.   What began with a small number of missions has become a sweeping program of ministry, education, health-care, social services, and all forms of community involvement both domestically and abroad.   As a true world-wide organization, the Nazarene Church succeeds in bringing together Christians from nearly every nation into a singular network that has no national anchor. The missionary work now centers on exactly the same mission as when the church started, â€Å"To make (form and bring into being through transforming grace) Christlike (holy, righteous) disciples (continual, reproductive followers of Christ) in the nations (a sent, international church). A Church whose primary motive is to glorify God,[6]†.   To that end, the Nazarene Church also maintains radio and television programs, supports Christian film productions, operates publishing houses throughout the world, manages youth-ministries, and health clinics[7]. The Nazarene Church began with a very clear intent – to spread the Word of God throughout the world in following the Great Commission.   In this, the Nazarenes have been exceptionally successful.   Their work and their missionaries have demonstrated a true zeal for their pursuit and have demonstrated an unwavering conviction. Their Wesleyan / Holiness foundation made the Nazarene church uniquely ideologically and scripturally suited to the kind of missionary work they do now.   By placing themselves in the places of greatest need in the world, they have also succeeded in walking the walk of the true spiritual guide to those in need.   Each member has been tasked with one primary goal – not to raise money, not to falsely inflate their sense of purpose, but to guide others to embrace God and Christ. In summer season, Coca Cola increases its products price as compared to its price in other seasons (Karagouni et al., 2013). Marketing plan for all seasons are different and developed accordingly. Internal Environment Analysis Competitor Analysis (SWOT) STRENGTH Global Brand- Coca Cola is globally recognised brand and has support of vast population and has been valued as premium brand (Yuan, 2013). A Strong Marketing- Marketing activity of Coca Cola has been tends to be most effective. They spend huge amount on advertisements and sales promotion. Customer Loyalty- It has been observed that Coca Cola has loyal customer and resulted in high customer turnover Bargaining Power- Since Coca Cola covers vast market area therefore possess storing bargaining power. WEAKNESS Undiversified Product portfolio- Coca Cola has put emphasis on producing and selling soft drinks. There is no other product of Coca Cola that has attracted customers. Higher Debt- Coca Cola has been facing issue of high leveraged company that means debt of Coca Cola as compared to its equity is at higher side. OPPORTUNITIES Increasing Trend- It can be analysed that there is increasing trend in terms of consumption of soft drinks or bottled water in many countries. Coca Cola can reap opportunity. FDI- Government of many countries has opened doors for international companies or foreign companies to come and operate business their county at cheaper labour and other resources (Gupta and Mishra, 2016). THREATS Changing customer preference- Customer taste has been changing in terms of soft drink consumption level. Now people are keener towards healthier drinks. CSR and Sustainability- Each every organisation operating in the business has to undertake CSR and sustainability activities. (Research and Markets, 2013) Target market segments/ Segmentation Target market strategy in marketing plan can be define as the strategy which is made for targeting specified population of the total market. Demographic- In terms of age factor, Coca Cola has focused on population having age in between 8 years to 40 years. Males and females both are targeted in marketing plan and all customers falling under any profession i.e. students, processionals, employment, etc all are targeted. Middle class people are the main target of Coca Cola as they are providing its products at affordable price brand (Lin et al., 2013). Marketing and brand awareness- Another important aspect of marketing plan of Coca Cola is brand awareness activities that they undertake. This process is included in the marketing plan of Coca Cola and has undergone many programmes. Event organisation, promotional sales prices, marketing campaigns, etc are some targeting stagey of Coca Cola (Hutt and Speh, 2013). Conclusion / Recommendations Following are recommendations for the same: Product- Product line of Coca Cola is very limited i.e. only beverages have focus on. Apart from beverages or soft drink, there is no other product that can compete in the market. Therefore it is recommended to put more focus on other products also (Satit et al., 2012). Price- Prising strategy of Coca Cola is good enough after considering competition level in the market. Price of product includes variable cost, fixed cost, other costs and profit margin of company. Breakeven point is at higher side that restricts Coca Cola to earn more profits. Cost mix of Coca Cola manufacturing process needs to be more effective i.e. cost management shall be undertaken by adopting new technical equipments (Cave et al., 2012). Promotion- Coca Cola shall spend more on advertisements and other promotional events that enhance brand awareness among target population. Therefore promotion shall focus on low cost, best quality, international brand and service level of Coca Cola shall be promoted (Brooks and Simkin, 2012). Promotional activities shall be carried out in terms of events, shows, etc. Promotion will also be undertaken by adopting many other strategies or promotional tools like advertisement, distribution of broachers, public relation activities, seminars, etc (Oksentyuk, 2012). Place- Place of distribution of products also plays important role in marketing plan and is considered as important part. Coca Cola shall establish more distribution channels and limit intermediaries so as to cut cost of final product (Baldwin, 2012). Budget for implementing Marketing strategies Budgeting is the process of assignment cost or expenses for items or cost areas of those activities which is required to be undertaken in future. Under budgeting process, budgets are prepared for the future course of actions that business organisation is required to undertake. Budgets are most effective planning tool that is made in advance for future activities. Budgets are treated as most effective planning tool for the management. In this case, management or marketing manager of Coca Cola will be making marketing budget for the next 6 months i.e. January to June. In this budget, expenses related to marketing activities or promotional activities are undertaken. Each expense is compared with budgeted sales revenue of the respective month. They had focused on advertisement form of promotion of their products. Advertisement includes advertisement in TV, hoardings, glow hoardings, etc. Apart from advertisement, Coca Cola will organise many events for the promotion of their products and for first s3 months there will be more expenses on it. Legal expense is fixed expenses throughout the budgeted period and legal expenses will not change in 6 months budgeted period. Salary expenses will be at increasing trend because as and when marketing activities will be undertaken then more staff is required to be appointed. This is the reason of increase in salary expenses for marketing budget of Coca Cola. It can be analysed that, in first 3 or 3 months, marketing expenses as compared to sales revenue will be at higher side and in later months marketing expenses will reduce. From the budgeted marketing expenses it can be observed that, sales revenue will get increased and marketing activities or expenses will be reduced.
